ROLE OF TEACHER IN CONSCIENTISING CHILD ABUSE OVER NET

As part of B.Ed. curriculum, an online assignment was given for the paper EDU.03 - Technology and Communication in Education. The topic given was ' ROLE OF TEACHER IN  CONSCIENTISING CHILD ABUSE OVER NET.'



Over the last ten years, the widespread usage of internet and other related ICTs have increased remarkably in all parts of the world. This can be viewed as a coin which has two opposite sides, one being the positive side where people use internet for gathering information, processing, communicating etc. The other side of the coin, it possesses threats to children’s wellbeing and personality. This increased the risks for sexual abuse and exploitation in both online and offline. Child abuse over net is a growing social concern. Online child abuse can be defined as a unique form of child abuse which is also known as Cyber Molestation. This abuse happens face - to -face, nor it doesn't compulsory involve physical contact. It happens virtually, distanced and is of anonymous nature. It can also happen in the form of statutory rape, forcible sexual assault, harassment etc. Online abuse of children can occur in various forms like cyber bullying, grooming and sexual abuse.

Increasing abuse of children over net is an issue of prime discussion. As we know, children spent most of their time in schools than in their abode. The role of teacher in creating consciousness among students and make them aware of the pitfalls of online media is a topic of utmost importance.
