The Experience of Microteaching📙👩‍🏫

Microteaching is a teacher training technique for learning teaching skills. It is a technique whereby a prospective teacher teaches a small unit to a small group of 5 to 10 students, usually peer group, in a short period of 5 to 10 minutes. Microteaching focusses on only one teaching skill at a time.

Microteaching is an important aspect in any teacher training courses. As per our B.Ed. curriculum, each student teacher must master any two core teaching skills.

The two skills alloted to me were Skill of reinforcement and Skill of using blackboard. We took the sessions on 4th of April, 2024.

The skill of reinforcement focussed on giving positive verbal and non verbal cues inorder to motivate the students. I tried to use positive verbal cues like 'good' , 'excellent', 'well-explained', 'try to remember' etc motivated the students. Positive non verbal cues like nodding the head, smiling, writing the answer on the board were also planned, practiced and implemented.

The skill of using blackboard focussed on neatness, legibility and appropriateness of the blackboard work. Proper planning is necessary for a good blackboard presentation. I selected the topic 'Concord' for this skill and I chose  just three rules of the same alongwith the examples. I think I could present the work in a simple and easily understandable way.

The experience of Microteaching was indeed a good one as we were taking the class infront of our own peer group. I found it much easier when compared to a traditional classroom setting, since the number of students, time and portion are too small. A normal class requires the combination of several skills simultaneously and here we focussed only on one particular skill.

I hope practicing these skills will really benefit us for our training sessions as well as while pursuing the career as teachers.
